On Halloween, a man was arrested for drunk driving while dressed as a breathalyzer. Here’s the story from thesmokinggun.com:

>>Halloween Reveler Dressed As Breathalyzer Busted For Drunk Driving

In the most amusing meta moment from the Halloween police blotter, a Nebraska man dressed as a portable Breathalyzer machine was arrested for drunk driving.

Matthew Nieveen, 19, was busted early Monday for DUI and being a minor in possession of alcohol. Nieveen, pictured in the police photo, was collared after a Lincoln cop pulled over his Ford F-150 after the teenager was spotted driving erratically. Though cops identified Nieveen, they decided to black out his face in a photo snapped post-arrest.

I just continue to enjoy these, perhaps because I’m not involved in them. Here’s the latest way-out-there criminal story:

Two police officers were attacked by a topless woman swinging a meat cleaver on Tuesday.

The bizarre assault came after two veteran cops in Portland, Ore., were called to an apartment complex after a call came because a naked woman was allegedly outside the building and screaming, according to police.

When the officers arrived, a neighbor informed them a woman had pushed out the window screen from her second floor apartment. The two retrieved the screen and knocked on the woman’s front door.

When I first heard that someone had gone to the Discovery Channel with a gun and taken hostages, I joked that the man must have wanted more “Shark Weeks” or something. But it turned out to be no laughing matter.

Here’s the story from The Daily Mail:

>>A gunman has been shot dead by police after taking a number of hostages at the Discovery Channel headquarters in Maryland, U.S., after his idea for a television show was rejected.

All three of James Jay Lee’s hostages managed to escape safely. At least one device appeared to explode as he was gunned down.

Lee walked into the main entrance of the building at 1pm today waving a gun and wearing what appeared to be metallic canisters strapped to his front and back.

I have wondered aloud in this blog if we were ever going to get along. Every day, I seem to read something that adds doubt that it will ever truly happen.

Take, for instance, what happened on late Friday night/early Saturday morning on the Washington, DC, Metro (subway system). Apparently a huge fight broke out, although no one seems to be reporting why it happened. Here’s the story from the Washington Post:

>>Injuries, arrests after massive 70-person Metro brawl

At least four people were injured and three arrested late Friday night after a brawl in the Metro system involving as many as 70 people, a Metro spokeswoman said.

The brawl apparently began about 11 p.m. at the Gallery Place station and then continued in the L’Enfant Plaza station, according to Metro spokeswoman Cathy Asato.

One of my favorite kinds of stories to read has to do with stupid criminals, folks who seem to have lost all common sense in their attempt to commit crimes. So, this will be the first in this occasional series. (Some day, I’ll go back and review previous Darwin Awards, which are just impossible to make up on our own.)

>>Man posts bail with counterfeit bills

By Peter Mucha, Inquirer Staff Writer

Most people post bail to stay out of jail, not to risk a lot more time there.
