Today, for the first time in about a year, I’ll get to attend the monthly club meeting of the U.S.S. Chesapeake Star Trek and Science Fiction Club, based in the Washington, D.C. area.

As I mentioned in the first of these blog entries, my work schedule changed recently. Until early May, I had spent a year working on Saturdays, which made it very difficult to get to even a part of the club’s regular gatherings. Heck, I even had trouble getting to the club’s Writers’ Group, which has been working on scripts for fan films based in the Classic Trek era.

Previously on “Images Of Batman:” Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns rocked the comics industry and led to a hit feature film.

During the early ’90s, I used to comb the Internet looking for any news on Star Trek for the COMSTAR, the monthly publication for the U.S.S. Chesapeake club. I’d print every credible item I could find about the franchise in the newsletter. Of course, while I searched for Trek news, I’d look up other topics of interest, including Batman.

After the Batman movie had earned a huge take, word came across the web that Fox was going to air a new animated series about the Caped Crusader.

As a long-time Batman fan, I’ve seen pretty much every animated show based on the character. And it hasn’t been pretty.

I love great storytelling. I mean, I LOVE great storytelling! I’m totally passionate about it. I seek it out constantly. I crave it, need it desperately. Really, I can’t get enough of it!

Great storytelling will expand your understanding of life and the universe. It can help you experience something you haven’t ever imagined before. It can flex your precious imagination with tremendous might. It can inspire you. It can make you laugh and/or cry. It can help fill your days with profound thoughts and feelings. It can carry you through the tough times and make a good day even better. It is something so special that you know it when you find it, and always remember it.

That’s why I love Star Trek: Deep Space Nine!

Get your headphones ready! The last couple of days, I’ve finally gotten to spend some time figuring out the digital voice recorder and stereo microphone I bought back in the summer of 2009. I was pleasantly surprised when I recorded my voice tonight–it sounds pretty good!

Why did I buy this in the first place? Well, come August, Randy and I have press passes to the Baltimore Comic-Con, which hopefully will give me the chance to interview some of my favorite comics creators, including Geoff Johns, Dan DiDio and Mark Waid. I’d love to be able to contribute some interviews for the SciFiPulse podcast I co-host each Sunday at 5 PM ET. That would be a great way to start, seems to me.

Is this me punching a time clock?Today was my first day working my new schedule. As I expected, I had trouble sleeping last night because I knew I had to be on time for my first day, or die trying!

Several errands were done before I got there, including a doctor’s appointment. I’m doing well enough that my meds are being reduced. I liked that!

It was weird knowing I had to leave at 10 p.m. But the one constant in life is change, and I’ll grow with it. I guess the payoff will be Saturday when I can go to the store and maybe even go out with friends from the U.S.S. Chesapeake Writers’ Group!

WayneWhere this blog will go, nobody knows–not even me! I’ll probably just start out with some personal thoughts, then go more into my areas of interest, which hopefully others will enjoy as well!

Thanks to Ian Cullen at scifipulse.net for helping me learn WordPress and giving me the opportunities to help with the site and with the podcast. Thanks to Scott Klein for setting the blog up and for answering my questions!

With the advent of May, I’ll be back to working Monday-Friday, which will be nice. I’ve missed getting together with the club on Saturdays. My hours will change to 2 to 10 p.m., which will give me a schedule closer to “reality,” as it were. Not that I minded working the days and hours that others would prefer not to–I enjoy being flexible. But since the passing of my mother back in October of 2008, life has been decidedly different. And all the things I’ve gone through have been educational, but also difficult. I’ve got to get back on track financially. I’ll get back to a level playing field soon.
