This “Mother And Child Reunion” was 77 years away!

>>SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. (AP) — For most of her 100 years, Minka Disbrow tried to find out what became of the precious baby girl she gave up for adoption after being raped as a teen.

She hoped, but never imagined, she’d see her Betty Jane again.

The cruel act of violence bore in Disbrow an enduring love for the child. She kept a black and white photograph of the baby bundled in blankets and tucked inside a basket.

It was the last she saw of the girl — until the phone rang in her California apartment in 2006 with the voice of an Alabama man and a story she could have only dreamed.

I don’t have any children, so I can’t really throw any stones, but the irony in this is rather pronounced. Here’s where I located the story:

CHARLEROI, Pa. — Police said charges are pending after a 2-year-old was found without shoes or a jacket wandering down a Washington County street Wednesday.

Charleroi police said a neighbor spotted the toddler walking down Washington Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

“He kind of just came up to me, and I picked him up, asked him where he lives and he was kind of too little to say anything,” Robin Stasicha said.

Investigators said the child’s mother was attending a parenting class when the incident occurred.

A Message To Mom

Since today is Mother’s Day, I thought I would honor my Mom’s memory by writing her a letter. I hope you can also find something of value in it as well. And Happy Mother’s Day to each and every Mom!

Dear Mom:

I miss you. It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly two years since you’ve been gone. Sometimes it feels like two decades. You told me once that nothing stays the same forever and, as always, you were right.

I see you and the house the way it used to be in my dreams. You still have that wonderful smile and the kind, soft, gentle words you always said. I remember that the only time anyone ever heard loud noise coming from our house was when we were laughing. View full article »
