It had to happen. Just like Internet usage, women have surpassed men when it comes to obtaining degrees of higher knowledge.

Here’s the story from myway.com:

>>In a first, women surpass men in advanced degrees

WASHINGTON (AP) – For the first time, American women have passed men in gaining advanced college degrees as well as bachelor’s degrees, part of a trend that is helping redefine who goes off to work and who stays home with the kids.

Census figures released Tuesday highlight the latest education milestone for women, who began to exceed men in college enrollment in the early 1980s. The findings come amid record shares of women in the workplace and a steady decline in stay-at-home mothers.

The educational gains for women are giving them greater access to a wider range of jobs, contributing to a shift of traditional gender roles at home and work. Based on one demographer’s estimate, the number of stay-at-home dads who are the primary caregivers for their children reached nearly 2 million last year, or one in 15 fathers. The official census tally was 154,000, based on a narrower definition that excludes those working part-time or looking for jobs.

I’ll never understand the desire to damage someone or something else. If I don’t like what’s being done, I get away from it. Why a person decides it is time to hurt someone else is beyond me.

Recently, there was a beating of transgender person in a McDonalds in Maryland, where I live. Here’s the latest on that story from thewashingtonpost.com:

>>Community Rallies Around Victim Of McDonalds Attack

The woman who was attacked in a Baltimore County McDonald’s last week thanked the woman who stepped in and tried to help, as more than a hundred supporters gathered at the Rosedale restaurant Monday night. The rally drew together representatives of transgender, civil-rights and faith-based communities in a call to action to stop violence against all people.

“I’ll never forget you for this,” Renee Polis told Vicky Thoms, who was hit in the face as she stepped between Chrissy Polis and the two teens who were caught on video punching and kicking Polis, and dragging her by her hair until Polis appears to have a seizure.

The attack was filmed by a McDonald’s employee and was first posted on YouTube last week. Despite being removed from the video-sharing site, it quickly went viral, garnering hundreds of thousands of views after being linked from several websites, including the Drudge Report.

I’ve always enjoyed John Stossel‘s reports and reporting. In a new column, he poses a good question: Since the wars in the Middle East have been cranking up and not down, why aren’t there more and bigger anti-war protests?

Here’s what he said:

>>Where Did All The Anti-War Protestors Go?

The anti-war movement was all over the news before President Obama was elected. But apparently they weren’t really anti-war … they were just anti-President Bush. Two college professors just released a study of national protests between 2007 and 2009. What did they find?

Sorry I haven’t been posting for a while–real life gets in the way of blogging sometimes. But I did come across a “stupid criminal” story that was too good to pass up.

Here it is, from ksl.com in Utah:

>>Inmate at Utah State Hospital accused of strangling roommate over snoring

By Shara ParkPROVO — Police say an inmate at the Utah State Hospital may have killed another prisoner over his snoring.

James Norman, 33, is currently on lockdown at the state hospital accused of strangling his roommate — 28-year-old Omar Abas Sharif — to death on the night of March 18. Police say Norman was upset over being kept awake by Sharif’s snoring — prompting the attack.
