I’m a BIG fan of holiday music, so I’ve been assembling my playlists for a while now. I plan on sharing some of my favorite seasonal songs here each weekend until we hit 2012!
First up is Alan Jackson singing one of his best holiday songs, “Let It Be Christmas:”
It’s time to pay our respects to the honored dead who have preserved our liberty. We call that holiday Memorial Day with good reason–we need to remember their sacrifices.
In their honor, I want to play some patriotic selections for the weekend.
First up is Lee Greenwood singing “America The Beautiful:”
I enjoy sharing the songs I like so much that I’ll try and do that as much as I can during 2011, particularly on the weekends.
So, let’s kick the first weekend off with some of my favorites. First, Nick Cave performs “To Be By Your Side” from the movie Winged Migration. I love that the percussive sounds in the background are often the sounds of the geese’s wings beating:
I know it is a little early to talk about Christmas and the holidays, but I used to sing in a choir, and that meant we had to start working on holiday music early. So very soon, I will be breaking out my favorite tunes and posting them on this blog, replacing the Summer ones I like so much. I hope to get to that this weekend!
But as someone who is involved in a podcast myself, I have been listening to other programs to learn from them on several levels. One of the first I came across is The Christmas Stocking, which has been releasing episodes for several years now. I had a chance to correspond with the person who makes the show, and he’s genuinely interested in Christmas and all associated with it just like I am.
I’ve been under the weather the last few days, but even feeling poorly couldn’t prepare me for what might be the worst Halloween outfit ever, worn by none other than Lady Gaga.

Okay, I know that yesterday was actually the real holiday, but it is a long weekend, so I hope you are still in the mood for some patriotic music. I know I am! I thought I’d pretty much let the music and the videos do the talking today, and I tried to pick out most of the videos because the music was easy to hear and/or they also had the words to the songs.
