I know it is a little early to talk about Christmas and the holidays, but I used to sing in a choir, and that meant we had to start working on holiday music early. So very soon, I will be breaking out my favorite tunes and posting them on this blog, replacing the Summer ones I like so much. I hope to get to that this weekend!

But as someone who is involved in a podcast myself, I have been listening to other programs to learn from them on several levels. One of the first I came across is The Christmas Stocking, which has been releasing episodes for several years now. I had a chance to correspond with the person who makes the show, and he’s genuinely interested in Christmas and all associated with it just like I am.

Here’s his official description: The Christmas Stocking is a podcast hosted by Lee Cameron. Every episode features at least one Christmas song, sometimes traditional, sometimes something you may not have heard before. You’ll also hear the stories behind our favorite traditions and other surprises. Most episodes are about 10 minutes.

I’ve enjoyed learning about Christmas cards, holiday parades (one of his favorite topics), Christmas celebrations in other parts of the world and little-known holiday facts. His website even has a countdown to Christmas, so you should check it out!

As you prepare to celebrate the season, I’d recommend that you download episodes new and old via iTunes or at his website. They are little gifts for young and old, so I’m already looking forward to the first new program of Christmas 2010!

In order to get the season started, let’s turn to the Muppets, of course:
