Folks, apologies for being under the weather so much the last few weeks. I’ve had a nasty bug that has been after me for a long time. I hope to be coming out the other side, finally!
This weekend, I thought I’d share some music from some of my favorite pianists, so here goes:
First up, Joe Bongiorno has hosted many concerts from his home online, and this is one of his songs I enjoy as he performs live:
Sorry I missed putting up a musical extravaganza last weekend, but I thought I’d make up for it this time with some Disney music, which I nearly always enjoy.
First off, let’s listen to some computer-like electro-music from Tron: Legacy:
I enjoy sharing the songs I like so much that I’ll try and do that as much as I can during 2011, particularly on the weekends.
So, let’s kick the first weekend off with some of my favorites. First, Nick Cave performs “To Be By Your Side” from the movie Winged Migration. I love that the percussive sounds in the background are often the sounds of the geese’s wings beating:
Now that we’re into the three-day Christmas weekend (love that!), I thought I’d share some songs at the very top of my favorite holiday music lists! Here goes:
I love the European melody for “Away In A Manger,” and I enjoy Judy Collins‘ version best:
I’ve been under the weather the last few days, but even feeling poorly couldn’t prepare me for what might be the worst Halloween outfit ever, worn by none other than Lady Gaga.
At NJ.com, some butchers had advice if you want to wear a meat outfit:
Jersey butchers warn against wearing a Lady Gaga meat dress for Halloween
I have previously listed several musicians I really like, but today I thought I’d post some videos about spiritual songs I’ve come to enjoy over the years.
First up is Going Back To Jesus by The Heritage Singers, which was a favorite during my college years. I think it still holds up after all this time:
Today I wanted to continue to share great music as well as the the great musicians who make it.
Paul Cardall has an inspiring story to tell. He’s written a book about it, but he also makes some truly lovely and inspiring music as well. Check out this video about his book:
Yesterday, I started off with videos of some of my favorite musicians. Today, I’m going to continue that theme and highlight even more of my favorites!
I recently did an entry about Joe Bongiorno from Seattle, Washington. I came across his music on the web, and again, it was love at first listen. Not long ago, he invited fans to attend an online concert he and some of his fellows were holding at his home, and I was happy to get home from work just in time to attend. It was great fun, the music was superb, and it helped me get to the end of a busy work week. Here’s one of his great songs, “Tears Of Joy.” He’s actually performing the song from the same location he was in during his recent concert:
On this blog, I often spend weekends discussing themes (like comics or local events), but I thought this time I’d go video by sharing some pieces from my favorite musicians.
First up is the one who got me interested in piano music, Jim Brickman. This song is the first one of his I ever heard. It was playing regularly on a local radio station, but the announcers would never say what it was called or who was performing it. Finally, one Sunday morning as I was running errands, the DJ said it was “Angel Eyes” played by Jim Brickman. As soon as I heard that, I was off to the local music store, bought the CD, rushed home, listened to and fell in love with the beautiful music. (When I read the information that came with the CD, I discovered he had previously released another CD, which sent me running to downtown DC so I could buy that one, too! I was hooked!) This video reminds me of the time I saw him in concert a couple of years back–he performed this as an encore!
