Personally, I had enough of the white stuff just a couple of months ago when we were literally buried with it during Snowpocalypse. But some folks can never get enough … if you are in San Francisco. Here’s a story from sfgate.com:
>>A rare late-spring storm, coming at the end of what has been a chilly May, will lead to a most unusual promotion this weekend at one Sierra resort – skiing on Memorial Day.
By then the weather should be sunny and warmer, but for the rest of this week, damp skies will be the rule in the mountains and the Bay Area flatlands, forecasters said Tuesday.
A weather system moved onshore about midday Tuesday, bringing widespread rain to the Bay Area and snow to about the 6,900-foot level around Lake Tahoe. At least one resort is taking advantage of the weird weather to invite skiers to enjoy one last fandango on the slopes.
The lifts at Donner Ski Ranch west of Lake Tahoe will be running until the snow melts, said owner Janet Tuttle.
“We’re expecting spring skiing conditions with 6 more inches of snow over the next couple of days, then a bright blue sky for the weekend,” Tuttle said Tuesday. “Who could ask for more on Memorial weekend?”
Rudy Cruz, a specialist with the National Weather Service in Reno, noted that most Sierra resorts have shut down ski operations by now.
Heavenly Ski Resort touts itself as “the place to be” this weekend – for sightseeing after a ride on its gondola. The ski season ended there April 25.
Northstar-at-Tahoe was touting its annual Memorial Day Sidewalk Sale, with pictures on its Web site of visitors in T-shirts and shorts.
“I don’t know what kind of quality the snow is,” Cruz said, adding that Sierra resorts often decide individually whether to “stretch (the ski season) as much as they can.”
Tuttle conceded that “it looks like the temperatures are on the rise after the weekend, so we’ll see how long the snow lasts.”
The warmer weather should arrive in the Bay Area just in time for the holiday, said weather service forecaster Steve Anderson. Highs in San Francisco are expected to be in the 60s by then, and some spots in the South Bay could nudge the 80-degree mark.
“It will be a classic Memorial Day barbecue weekend in the San Francisco Bay Area,” Anderson said. “We will have a fantastic Saturday, Sunday and Monday.”
In the meantime, however, it will be a drippy Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The weather will generally be unsettled through the week, but no heavy rain is expected, said weather service forecaster Diana Henderson.<<
I hope they will all enjoy themselves … far away from me! I want warm and balmy, myself! But just a reminder, here’s a video from Snowmaggedon back in February:
